Cold Therapy

Many, many years ago when I was a younger doctor, I began to notice that many of the kids I saw (I see all ages from very young to elderly) did not seem especially enthusiastic about coming to the office. Of course, that presented a problem for parents in trying to get their kids to come to the appointments. After some time, I realized that if the main reason for them to come to the doctor's office was something other than seeing the doctor, they might be more willing. I thought about candy as an incentive until I realized that the parents would likely be less than thrilled. Large cash payments were considered, but quickly discarded as I was hoping to not go bankrupt. Then I thought, “Hey, what about ice cream?” I mean who doesn't like ice cream? Thus, was born "Cold Therapy."
I have noticed more benefits of ice cream and other cold treats over the years. Naturally, lore supports some benefits of ice cream including stress reduction and mood as well as cognitive improvements. However, I have done my research on Cold Therapy and I can assure you that it is good! Let's break that down:

ICE CREAM FOR COLD THERAPY:

Pecan Praline

This is a very soothing novelty with notes of caramel and hints of sweat cream. Once you start to enjoy this special treat you will think you are dining with the queen. There is a nose of nuttiness followed by a lingering finish reminiscent of a 2022 Chateau de Pecan. A personal favorite!

Black Cherry

No doubt originating in my birth state of Michigan where many cherries are grown, real Black Cherry ice cream has bits of cherries accompanied by a black cherry flavor. To top it off there is slight color of lavender that obviously reminds one of black cherry extract. The sweet not subtle flavor explosion will have you begging for more. A personal favorite!

Vanilla

There are so many variations of this solid favorite that we need to be prepared to try many products! First up we have French vanilla which drowns one in luscious rich decadence. This is one is to be saved for those special occasions such as twice daily. Next comes the so-called vanilla bean ice cream with specs of what appear to be small insect parts but are in fact ground vanilla beans. With this wonderful fresh approach, you will forget all your troubles and let bygones be bygones.  Lastly, you certainly cannot go wrong with a big scoop (or two) of plain vanilla ice cream with some chocolate sauce & sprinkles on top!

Let us never forget the variations which come from different makers as well. Blue Bell, Häagen-Dazs, Ben & Jerry’s, Schwan's, Jeni's, and likely dozens more. A personal favorite!

PREPARED COLD THERAPY FOODS:

Ice cream sandwiches

Perennial favorites. They are flavorful and with a texture of the gods. These are worth practically any price. A personal favorite!

Ice cream Bars

Often come with a chocolate coating (either milk or dark) and often come with a delicious coating of nuts AND chocolate! (It’s a win-win) A personal favorite!

Drumsticks or Nutty buddies

Not clear if these are brand names, but on that chance, I will say that they are wonderful products and should be consumed with abandon. A personal favorite!

Fudge Bars

A good choice when seeking a chilled Bit-O-Heaven with lower calories. A personal favorite!

Frozen Fruit Bars

Another very attractive alternative for those who like to mix it up and have a refreshing fruity taste treat. A personal favorite!

We are not finished with all of the possible treats. We must describe some other superior delectables. Speaking of Fruity Taste treats, I would be remiss if I did not discuss the other wonderful natural treats available to cool down.

NATURAL COLD THERAPY FOODS:

Grapes, Blueberries, Cherries, Pineapple, Strawberries, Raspberries, & Blackberries

These are all recommended. These delicious acts of nature can be eaten as is from the freezer or made into a smoothie concoction by using a blender. If frozen fruit is new to you, you may want to consider letting the fruit thaw slightly for best texture. Often a small degree of frost will form on the fruit as it is thawing (but don't let it go too far!). For those poor unfortunate souls who have never experienced the Nirvana of frozen Pineapple for example, it has been reported that they obtain the best quality brand of pineapple chunks, freeze the can, pull the can from the freezer when ready, take off the lid and let thaw slightly and keep checking with a fork. When the pineapple is ready (three bears here - it has to be just right for you), wrap a hand towel around the can, kick back with your can and fork and get ready for the time of your life. (Be aware of sharp edges on the can and fork and coldness of the fruit and the can. Never try this at home or at work or anywhere else until you have completed a frozen fruit/ice cream safety course.) Naturally, these are personal favorites!

If you choose to add whipping cream to any of the above, I cannot help you. You are on your own.
